Sorry, Dave, my bad.  Basically you want a net change to the MQT whenever any of the subordinate tables changes, so that you can avoid the rebuild time.

Different problem than the one I was trying to solve.  :)

2. You want a view over that data as of a point in time (the MQT)
3. You want to be able to update that MQT on demand without locking

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. The problem is locks on the MQT
itself. This MQT is referenced over 12 million times a day. So, it is
difficult to find a time when IBM can obtain an exclusive lock on the MQT
in order to refresh it. I thought I heard that IBM was going to lift the
requirement for an exclusive lock perhaps in v7r3. Anybody know? We are
currently v7r2.
