Virtual image can be local. I tend to copy them there. Nothing like
using physical media, getting to the 10th CD in an upgrade and find out
it's bad. Yee Haw!

If you want to use NFS then it would use the internal back plane to talk
to your hosting lpar. The guest would be using STRSST so I don't think
TCPIP would need to be loaded yet.
But if you want baby steps then start with virtual image. NFS can come
later.
