I'm thinking I've been on these lists maybe 23 years - I know it was in the mid to late '90s that I first found this.

It has been a tremendous help to my career, and the community the grows from this is an amazing thing.

I'm thinking I sent an email asking a question in 1995 and a certain David Kahn replied within 15 minutes - my world was turned upside - he worked in one of the "-istans" in Asis, yet he replied almost instantly - I had just entered a different world!

So much thanks to you, David - I am honored to call you my friend!

Cheers
Vern

Oh, no, you don't get off so easy, Mr. Gibbs.  We must hearken back to days of yore.  First there was The Midrange System BBS, started in 1988 (I do believe), and then...

                           MIDRANGE SYSTEMS ECHO

I am in the process of forming a new echo for professional
computer users.  It will be similar in concept to the MAINFRAME
echo, but will be for IBM System/34, 36, 38, and AS/400 mini-
computer users (also known as MIDRANGE computers).  The area tag
     will be (obviously) MIDRANGE.

Midrange Systems have become a major part of IBM's plan for the
future, and I feel that many of our users would find an echo
dedicated to these system usefull.  Topics currently being
discussed include SAA, communications, CASE, and programming.

If you would be interested in carrying this echo, please contact
me.  I can be reached at 1:115/439 or on my system, The Midrange
System BBS, at 312-439-9679 (708-439-9679 after November 11th).

That, sir, was some serious vision.

Folks:

While we were celebrating 30 years of IBM i (System i, iSeries, &
AS/400 too) I noticed that midrange.com will be 25 years old in October.

I'm sure I'll say it again ... but I'd like to thank everyone who has
helped make midrange.com a vibrant & useful part of the IBM i community.

david

p.s. Strictly speaking, the Midrange System BBS is older than that ...
but I'm basing the age on when I registered the midrange.com domain.
