I believe the initial part is to get yum and a few other installed.
have a look here: ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/ibmi/products/pase/rpms/ <ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/ibmi/products/pase/rpms/>

here are the “offline” instructions

<snip>
### Offline Install Instructions

- Download ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/ibmi/products/pase/rpms/bootstrap.sh and ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/ibmi/products/pase/rpms/bootstrap.tar.Z to your PC

- Transfer these two files to the `/tmp` directory on your IBM i system (via FTP, mapped network drive, scp, etc...). Make sure to transfer them in binary.

- From a 5250 terminal run `QSH CMD('touch -C 819 /tmp/bootstrap.log; /QOpenSys/usr/bin/ksh /tmp/bootstrap.sh > /tmp/bootstrap.log 2>&1')`

- If you see message QSH005: "Command ended normally with exit status 0" in the job log you're all good. If not, consult `/tmp/bootstrap.log`.

Wahoo! Open source package management. Installing the env on a new

Unfortunately, the function to install the package management tools uses FTP to download the required functionality ... which our IT group has blocked.

I'll have to figure out a different way to get that installed.

IBM i on Power Systems: For when you can't afford to be out of business!

I'm riding 615 miles (Yes, you read that right) in the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure to raise money for diabetes research, education, advocacy, and awareness. You can make a tax deductible donation to my ride by visiting https://lsteml.diabetessucks.net.

See where I get my donations from ... visit https://lsteml.diabetessucks.net/map for an interactive map (it's a geeky thing).

I may have diabetes, but diabetes doesn't have me!
