Why not serve the files from a Linux LPAR? It can live in the same disks,
backup with the same speed as Windows and avoid all the pesky troubles of
the IFS... Might require additional admin skills if there were no linux
servers before but it would all live in the same POWER machine.

I don't think that "blob" is the right analogy for backing up iasps. But
you can save an entire iasp by using:

SAV DEV('/QSTS,LIB/RMS01.DEVD') ASPDEV(*CURASPGRP) UPDHST(*YES)

On the SAV command, just specify the *CURASPGRP parameter (the iasp
associated with the current Job).
