First question, why so large a drive? Multiple smaller ones would be more efficient both for the host and the client. Use multiple NWS servers to manage more drives.

Two: How busy was the host partition?

In the end I/O is I/O, and it will take what it takes. That's determined by many factors so I'm not sure the comparison is valid anyway.

Hi Paul

OK; just my experience. I may be wrong. Well, actually it looks like I *am*
wrong.

I am surprised, but that's OK - thanks for posting the timing.

I think recreating the storage space would probably have been quicker, at
least that what my experience has been (though I do not have any actual
numbers to quantify this).

The only reason I can think of why this might be is that the CRTNWSSTG runs
on the host system and accesses the disk directly whereas the disk
initialization is going through a layer of virtualization.

I also think the CRTNWSSTG has less performance impact on the disks which
is useful if there is any workload running in the hosted LPAR.

Paul,

I found the issue.
At the point of the restore, DST password is default, which is QSECOFR.
I was keying in the actual DST password.

But, I had to shutdown, no command access to issue the CHGDSTPWD
PASSWORD(*DEFAULT).
Live and learn.
And I had to initialize the load source, AGAIN, for a second time,
another
3 1/2 hours.

Paul--

You should be able to reset the DST password without a complete shutdown.

As QSECOFR: (You must be QSECOFR, not a QSECOFR-look-alike)
CHGDSTPWD PASSWORD(*DEFAULT)

This should put it back to QSECOFR (or is it qsecofr? I forget)

When trying to enter DST, DST password became disabled.
Had to shutdown to reset DST password.
