The STRRCYBRM command should have allowed you to use all of the devices,
however the defaults are not to use multiple devices.

After starting the recovery, you would need to use F9 to set those defaults.
(See step 10, or about there, on the recovery report)

significant tape seeking, unloading, loading during the recovery

Jim,

1) This was a "temp solution".
I only selected the restore items from the same volume which were in
sequence.
Restore streamed with no rewind, etc.
I repeated this process for each volume listed in the recovery.

2) Fiber Switch is zoned that all LPARs see all drives, no movement of SAS
adapter.
We updated the zoning to include the new P9 SAS adapters.
So all P7 LPARS and P9 LPARS are seeing all four drives in the library.

Paul:

You indicated you solved the issue you were raising? How exactly did you do
that?

Are those drives Fibre connected or SAS? Since we know you do not use VIOS,
are these drives zoned into all the partitions (assuming Fibre) or do you
move the SAS adapter between partitions?

If you do a WRKMLBSTS on the P9 does the library show up with multiple
drives or just a single drive?

I'm testing a P7 to P9 migration/recovery using BRMS, 3573 Tape library
with 4 LTO7 drives.
My original system save was using BRMS, using all 4 drives, 4 volumes.

From the BRMS recovery report, I can see that different volumes were used.
I set the BRMS recovery to use all 4 drives.

I'm noticing significant tape seeking, unloading, loading during the
recovery.
But with BRMS set to use 4 drives, I'm not sure why this is occurring.

Any thoughts from the group on improving the BRMS recovery?

Thank You
