The IBM sales manuals provide end of hardware service dates (when
provided). They can be found by a quick search of "<machine type> sales
manual". It is possible to search and drill down on the IBM sites - but I
prefer an immediate answer.
P5 servers are end of support this month and P7 (model dependant) in
September 2019.
Any service support extension would be on a case by case basis. If you
have a current HWMA agreement then approach your business partner and ask
the question on a service extension and be seated when you receive the
pricing.

Ask him where he saw it. If he can't remember:

Option 1: Inform him that <insert name of men's magazine here> is
probably not a reputable source for data processing information.
Option 2: Ask if perhaps he was confused because there was extended
support, for awhile but no longer, for V5R4 and perhaps that was what he
saw.
Option 3: Ask him if it was, perhaps, support offered by a third party.

A cursory glance has shown me nothing which concurs with your boss'
findings.

My supervisor said he recently read an article stating IBM is extending
hardware support for Power5 and Power 7 systems.

I've not seen or heard of such a move.

Anyone else heard this?
