Well most of us wouldn't have used from/to to begin with which is perhaps why you are not seeing examples.

If you had coded it this way:

D ebcdicDS DS
D charChannel 1a
D ebcdicChanel 3u Overlay(charChannel)

The conversions is now a bit more obvious i.e.

Dcl-ds ebcdicDS;
charChannel char(1);
ebcdicChanel uns(3) Overlay(charChannel);
End-ds;

You know you have two spellings there for channel right?

Since you are in position 1 of the Ds you could also code both fields as being Pos(1) - but there's no need.

Hi everyone
We are on V7r3
I have vowed to use free form in anything new that I create or changes to any existing programs
However, I am at a loss as to the following data structure I have to use in a new program
From an existing program, the data structure is

D ebcdicDS ds
D charChannel 1 1a
D ebcdicChanel 1 1u 0

I would be very grateful for any help on this
