is the difference. This is how IBM designed SQL on IBM i.

You can use CPYF to copy from an SQL table (which is also a PF) to
either a DDS PF or SQL table -- *if* you don't try to create the target
file using the CPYF command. The reason is because of the SQL long name.
CPYF can't change the SQL long name and, therefore, you'll get duplicate
errors if you try to create the target file in the same library (schema).

What I have done is CPYF or CRTDUPOBJ into QTEMP, use RUNSQL to
change the long name, then MOVOBJ back to whatever library I wanted. But,
this doesn't solve your need for partitions (multiple members). OVRDBF
can point to a particular member and then even SQL without partition
support can access that single member.
