Would it be useful to construct a physical file with the indexing data plus the path, for each .pdf? Then, using SQL, it would be fairly easy to build subfiles that could be scrolled, filtered, or sorted in all the various permutations that are desired. Plus adding new permutations becomes an afternoon's work.
