Wow, I never knew you could stack file names like that on an mget. I've
always done a single file with a wildcard and apparently I've always dropped
the results into the current directory on the receiving machine. This time
I was having trouble with BINTRP14.FILE so I tried it this way. Looks like
it worked by accident. :)
Thanks.

I'm doing an MGET with FTP and getting something strange. Why is it
trying to retrieve everything twice? Would there be some kind of
monitoring thing on the machine that would do this?
mget BINTRP14.FILE/STR00001*.mbr BINTRP14.FILE/STR00001*.mbr
Because you've asked for the same file pattern twice.
Whereas GET can take a target name, MGET does not.
MGET just takes one or more source patterns.
MGET is doing in the above example exactly what you told it to dy.
