Joe, I don't think .Net is necessarily any better or worse than Ruby, Python, Node, EGL, etc.
In the words of David Pumpkins: "It's its own thing."
I wouldn't necessarily go down the road of using .Net on the IBMi platform unless I already had MS centric developers.
The cool part is you have the option and its startup is much faster than the JVM.
And in my case I've been able to lift code that I used in Windows apps and deploy natively on i. Nice.

Yes, that makes sense, Jim.?? It's another place to get applications, and Windows programmers like it.? What I'm looking for are some concrete examples of applications that I, as the manager of a traditional IBM i shop, might want that .Net does better than other tools. I just want to know how a shop that doesn't already have Windows developers would benefit, because adding a new environment is not a zero-cost activity.?
