Well, whatever happened, happened at 03:05 today.
Nothing has been able to FTP inbound to the host since then.
It's the listener that's hung.
It hung with the message "Error closing process descriptor", e.g., there
was some kind of glitch as the listener let go of the caller after having
dispatched it to its communications port.
It's clearly that part of the TCP stack that is wedged. FTP won't shut down.
We have never seen this behavior before in years of operation.
We have scheduled an IPL.
