It sure looks like it was FTPd in BINary mode, in which case no 
conversion from EBCDIC to ASCII took place. Is this being done in 
batch?  If so, how do you tell Filezilla to use ASCII mode?

EDTF automatically shows ASCII or EBCDIC.
