I'd still recommend reading the book; it's a very useful primer on OS/400 (and I5/OS or IBM i) internals. It's also useful when you're going to dig _below_ the MI layer, and venture into SLIC or even PHYP, as PHYP is closely related to SLIC.
As for complete copies, Leif still sells the book. A lot of hard work went into it, and the price is more than reasonable.

Now there's a name from the past. A little over 20 years ago, we had Leif write some code that turned a Palm Pilot into a data transmission device to send time card and equipment usage info from foremen in the field into an iSeries at a construction company's main office.
