I like the option of using the SQL service.
Another option is to give up trying to copy it and go directly to PDF, thus bypassing the step.
First, load the freebie

Next prefix your program with an appropriate OVRPRTF. In my example I do this with BRMS Recovery reports.
RTVNETA SYSNAME(&SysName)
CHGVAR &QP1ARCY ('/tmp/' *tcat &SysName *tcat '_QP1ARCY.PDF')
RMVLNK OBJLNK(&QP1ARCY)
MONMSG CPFA0A9 EXEC(DO) /* Object does not exist */
/* Remove message from cluttering joblog */
   RCVMSG PGMQ(*SAME (*)) MSGTYPE(*EXCP) MSGKEY(*NONE) +
             WAIT(0) RMV(*YES)
EndDo
OVRPRTF FILE(QP1ARCY) DEVTYPE(*AFPDS) TOSTMF(&QP1ARCY) WSCST(*PDF)
STRRCYBRM OPTION(*SYSTEM) ACTION(*REPORT)
Later on in the program I then copy those reports out to geographically dispersed servers.
STRRCYBRM generates multiple reports. I just didn't show the additional overrides to focus on the simple.
