It will.  I think maybe Jim was thinking that the most common dependencies might be in the available package list so just go ahead and install them ahead of time.

But I am with you Rob, especially when it comes to audits: If it ain't on your system you won't be flagged if it is seen as a security risk by an audit tool.  Just install what you need.  Yum will make sure you install the correct dependencies.
