My point about parameters related to the historical reason for the LDA's existence. I wasn't "using" it at all.

So let's say your menu system has a new entry added to accommodate the new software you just bought (or inherited via acquisition) but that software (like a lot of others) thought the LDA was a perfectly good way for it to store its state information. Oooppppsss.

If your menu system was based on a user space or named data area then that couldn't happen.

Sorry Brad but I think using the LDA these days is just a really bad idea.

Maybe you just haven't seen as many screw ups caused by it as I have!

I think you're thinking of using it the WRONG way since you mention
parameters. I said, "if it fit the job". Parameters, IMHO, the LDA is NOT
a substitute for.

I haven't found a use for it again since the menu system (which it was used
to keep track of certain states in the menu system), but I stand by the
fact I would use it if it were a good fit.

And I'm 100% in disagreement with Brad. LDA is the devil's spawn and
should never be used.

It is an archaic construct from the pre-parameter days and is basically an
accident waiting to happen as has been demonstrated many times.

I personally don't, but where I used to work we used it heavily for our
home-grown menu system. It was the perfect fit for the job.

I wouldn't hesitate to use it again if it fit.

I'm just interested to hear if anyone uses the local data area these
days? I tend to always use a named data area but I have a situation
where it would be helpful to use the local data area, but I'm wondering
if I would step on someone's toes in the process.
