I'm making an effort to create my first linked server and running into issue

Microsoft Sql Server 2014
OLE DB provider for DB2 Version 5.0

I installed the OLE DB provider. Created a data source(MYTEST) connecting to my test library on my development machine. I am able to successfully connect using my SECOFR level profile. I have run the sample query displaying files in my library.
I then proceeded to create a linked server
I provided a name(testconnect)
Checked 'Other data source'
Selected provider 'Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2'
Entered data source the created in above test
Copied the connection string from the data source into 'Provider string'
Entered Catalog as my test library.

Then I click on the Security page and selected my local user(it's the user id I use from my rpg programs to connect to the Sql Server) and my SECOFR level profile as the remote user

When I try to test the connection I get
'The user does not have the authority to access the host resource. SQL Server error 7303)

I've looked at the Security for the local profile. It has public and Serveradmin

Any idea what I might be missing? Steps missed?

Mike

IDK if messing with set connection blasts any open cursors. Just haven't done enough with that.
Get too many WTF errors playing with CONNECT TO and that genre in Run SQL Scripts.

The trick is, there is no join involved. It's all faked by the code.
IDK if you can use 3 part naming in a procedure/udtf either but it's worth
the try.

Three part alias is not the problem. You won't need it. In functional logic,
you could simply connect to as much databases as you want and toggle between
them with set connection. In this scenario I would prefere a data access
SRVPGM with CRUD procedures but this might be a matter of taste.
