I want to thank everyone that replied to my predicament
Each has their own pros and cons
I would love to get the advance scheduler - but Im not sure I have a strong enough reason why I need that
In keeping with the KISS principle - I am leaning toward 2 separate job schedule entries - one for each Saturday - that exists and a new one for 1st of the month, with the omit dates

Hello Craig,

I have used CHGJOSCDE in an RPGLE program to do this. Just figure out the run date and the next run date.
Make a call to QCMDEXC or use sql QCMDEXC1 and make your change.
I'd oppose to that approach, because it modifies itself which is not quite so obvious like two sched entries. This is one of the examples where I'd spend less precious thinking time and just live with two entries.
