Some time back someone indicated that i 7.1 had been tried and it ran on POWER9 hardware.

In rebuttal it was widely pointed out that this is an unsupported configuration. It was also pointed out that some day IBM might make changes that stop i 7.1 from booting on POWER9 hardware.

That day has come. With current firmware IBM specially states that with the current updates i 7.1 will no longer boot on POWER9.

So, if you were considering that, don't! And if you DID that, upgrade your IBM i with the quickness!
