Define the fields subject to change by your program; compare only those fields on an update = fewer conflicts.

Do not allow record locking across an exfmt = fewer conflicts.

Encourage strong filtering = fewer conflicts.

Split crammed-full screens into two or three sub-subject screens = fewer conflicts.
