Perhaps you are undergoing the assumption that an auditor is auditing your system using Windows looking for "visible" shares.
If the share appears in the list generated by the following you're gone:

There is no valid reason for a share on the root. None. Never has been, never will be. Laziness to creating multiple shares more specific is not a valid reason.
