Joe,

No, your ODBC user doesn't need access to the logicals..

The DB has all the authority it needs to make use of logical's index the
when fulfilling the query.

The only reason you'd need to give access to the logicals is if you have a
query that uses the logical in the FROM clause.

Recall that it's perfectly acceptable to have a PF table with no user
access at all and logicals/views to which users are granted access. The DB
can still return the data out of the PF via that view.

Say I have two objects: a physical file with no key and a logical over
that physical. Both are created using DDS. I want to access the data
in the file from ODBC using a common ODBC profile, so my natural
inclination is to grant *USE access to the ODBC user profile to the
physical file. Here's the question: when my ODBC goes to get data in
the order of the logical, does it need to have *USE rights for the
logical in order for the SQL engine to take advantage of it?

Basically I'm just trying to decide whether my ODBC profile needs access
to my logicals. I'd like to set up a standard as I convert my system
from private authorities to AUTLs.
