Basically what happened is that SSL was the default. However they were using self signed certificates and browsers started declaring those evil. Whether or not you agree with that is irrelevant and if you want to play Don Quixote wait until Broadway reopens. But, because of this, IBM changed the default to non SSL and told you how to change it if you wanted to.
