What happens if in fileA, there is one record with key with a value of 1 (lets keep it simple)
But in fileB - there are more that one record with key with a value of 1
You may have been lucky in that the time it worked for you there was a 1 to 1 relationship from fileA to fileB

I could be wrong, but I feel like I've done this. Please correct me it it's not doable.
And how is the RFE request different from that?
