Displaying . and .. directories in WRKLNK -- MIDRANGE-L

On one of my partitions, when I do WRKLNK '/QOpenSys/*', I see this:

                            Work with Object Links

Directory . . . . :   /QOpenSys

Type options, press Enter.
2=Edit   3=Copy   4=Remove   5=Display   7=Rename   8
11=Change current directory ...

Opt   Object link            Type     Attribute    Text
      .                      DIR
      ..                     DIR
      bin                    DIR
      etc                    DIR
      lib                    DIR

(...)

But on a different partition, I do not see the . and .. directories. Does anyone know if this is controlled by a system setting of some kind, or at the user level, perhaps? This is the first time I've noticed it.
