Paul,
So, there is only one instance of the vHMC and it's running on my
laptop. I don't have anything to RDP into through the VPN. Well, no, I
take that back. I did copy the VM to my desktop at work but I also
cannot connect to the FSP with that vHMC either. So, I have done a
little sleuthing and it *seems* to be a network/routing issue (which is
good news because that can usually be solved). Here is what I have so far:
When I am physically present at the office I CAN connect to the FSP on a
CAT6 cable and the vHMC works like a champ. But I connect *almost*
directly to it because I am on a VLAN (10.0.10.xxx network) which the
9009 is on as well.
The vHMC running on my desktop at the office is on a different network
(192.168.50.xxx) and it cannot connect to the FSP. But I can connect to
the IBMi on the 10.x.x.x network using ACS or just plain old 5250
telnet. So, the routing from the 192.168.50.xxx network to the 10.x.x.x
network is OK. Just don't know what would be in the way of connecting
to the FSP.
The interesting thing is: I can connect to the web interface for
FSP/ASMI IP on any network. The HMC port is set to 10.0.10.2 subnet
mask of 255.255.255.0 and I can connect to that IP when the laptop is
cabled on the VLAN, signed into my desktop, or from home over VPN. So,
it doesn't seem to be a general routing issue. It may have something to
do with running within the VMWare environment....I just need to work
through that.
Thanks.

Pete,
For all my remote work, I first connect to our corporate network via Sonic Wall VPN.
Then I remote desktop desktop from my home laptop to work PC.

We found if you try connecting directly from home laptop, (no RDP) you run into routing issues, etc.
Hope this helps.
