As an alternative to the scheduler (or in conjunction with it), you can
also set up what I call a "self-perpetuating batch job," i.e., a batch
job that calculates the next date and time it should run, then submits
itself for that date and time.
As for "process previous day's data when it runs," that seems more in
the scope of RPG, COBOL, or even C.
And of course, with ILE, it is entirely possible to combine CL, RPG, and
C modules (is there an ILE COBOL?) into a single program.
