What functions use the CFGTCP Host tables?

Anything that attempts to resolve an IP address from a domain name or other mnemonic.

On any system, a host table entry can be used to allow access to another system by its "common name," or to block access to some domain (e.g., Facebook) by remapping it to "nowhere" (i.e., 0.0.0.0).

I do the former on both our Midrange boxes and my desktop systems, so that I can Telnet or FTP to, for example, "VENUS" by its name, without having to set up a local DNS; I do the latter mainly on my desktop systems, so that, for example, I cannot even be tricked into accessing the cauldron of unmitigated evil known as Facebook.
