If you can use RPG then look at ON-EXIT Op Code
It gets called whenever the program terminates no matter what.

<Steve>
is it possible to have a CL program run ALCOBJ to get an *EXCLRD lock on
an
object. Then be guaranteed that once the CL program ends, the lock will be
released?
</Steve>

ACTGRP(*NEW) and CEE4RAGE could do this. As I don't use CL since more than
15 years, I don't have an CL example, but lots of RPG (using CEE4RAGE for
cleanup work is standard in all my programms.
For instance here: http://bender-dv.de/Sourcen/QRPGLESRC.HASHTABLE (have
a
look on subprocedures init and exit. init registers procedure exit as exit
handler, put your DLCOBJ in procedure exit and the runtime calls the
procedure , when the ACTGRP ends - regardless why and when this happens.
