We had this discussion once before, maybe you want to revisit that?

Findings were: If the VTL vendor has no Samba, no NFS and no other "dumb" means to access the raw files, a VTL has the same comparably high safety level as a real tape library, with tapes being stored entirely within it: What's in there *can* be loaded and overwritten, given enough expertise and necessary authority.
