Thanks, but I'd prefer to stay away from SSHD. I rather despise it - Heck, IBM can't even get RDi to work with it.

Don't know how many users and how complex is your network, but have you
tried with SSH?
Some of our customers are using *SSHD on IBM i combined with SFTP Drive
2 from nSoftware. There's a personal and a commercial version. In our
case is really fast, specially on remote (VPN) connections.
Note: We have changed sshd_config to use the internal SFTP server and
"DNS=no"
