Since I just subscribed I can't reply directly in the right thread, but
hopefully this will do. I happen to have an SQL session open and a
REGEXP_INSTR test jig left over from my own question, so I thought I'd do a
little test.
It seems despite the manual page strongly implying that the hex should be
lower-case, it only works if it's upper-case, viz:
with foo(bar) as (
values('--- CONN '))
SELECT foo.bar, hex(foo.bar),
regexp_instr(foo.bar,'[\X00-\X3F]')
FROM
foo
WHERE
regexp_instr(foo.bar,'[\X00-\X3F]') > 0
