That sounds like a heck of a lot more trouble than just using the IFS APIs
directly. Of course, we don't know those APIs are *verboten*.

If you descend into PASE, you can use Python to:

- get a directory listing
- write it to a database file

I do this sort of thing to return output and error codes from PASE to
legacy code.
