Sure, 64GB is a little small, but remember most of the folks on this size
box don't need that much memory. My system has partitions for four
releases of IBM i, AIX, and three Linux partitions, plus the two VIOS all
running quite happily. All SAN boot. Caveat: Add the SR-IOV cards to
the mix and 64GB will not be enough, but for a smaller workload, it works
just fine. If IBM would bump the minimum to 128GB they would most likely
never sell a P10 box again. Memory and card slots are really the only
reason to get past P05.

Isn't the 64Gb RAM limitation a bit of a showstopper towards having
multiple LPARs? VIOS consumes 4~8Gb and then each LPAR needs its own
healthy amount of RAM....

Sure. Why not? Requires a fibre card and depending on if you are
running
VIOS or not two fibre and ethernet cards, although this requires Fibre
switches. A stand alone partition could direct connect to the SAN
(assuming a lower end SAN that accepts direct connect)

I have multiple customers using SAN boot for VIOS and IBM i, AIX, and
Linux
on P05 boxes. (Agile has one too)
