It helps (or it helps me) to imagine the image catalog as a tape library
hopper and the individual images as tapes.

re 1. What do you mean by getting the Image Catalog name display and what
has QIMGCTL got to do with it?
re 2. by image do you mean the individual volumes ? You use them like
tapes, so send them to another system, add them to an image catalog and you
should be able to restore what is on them. The same rules apply as would
apply for muli volume
re 3. as per the help Specify multiple volumes in the SAVLIB command VOL
parameter:

Volume identifier (VOL) - Help

Specifies the volume identifiers of the volumes, or the cartridge
identifiers of tapes in a tape media library device, on which the
data is saved. The volumes must be placed in the device in the same
order as specified for this parameter.
