I'm not sure if the restriction is imposed by GDDM, or by the (lack of) things being available with V4. On Linux, I'm currently using rrdtool. This is an OpenSource time series "database" solution with integrated graphing functionality, and requires a lot of external libraries for its graphing support, plus font rendering within graphs.

I'm open to other suggestions within the artificial restriction to V4R5. :-)
