Thank you all for your responses. They each gave me clues, and ultimately
helped me figure out how to make it work!

In my case, I had two issues to resolve. First, SQL couldn't find the
function. This was remedied by either qualifying the function name on the
call, or by setting the CURRENT PATH special register appropriately before
using the unqualified function name.

Second, once SQL could find the function and call it, the underlying RPG
program needed an additional library to be added to the library list (which
is not the same thing as the SQL path). Without it, I would get SQL0443
(general program error, very nondescript).
