Yes, and that's where the differences between professional and hobbyist become apparent. ;-) I'm using DDS media. Full saves fit on a 12GB DDS3, but for increments I prefer to use the much more robust DDS1 90m tapes: They can be overwritten numerous times without losing breaking. Random sample restores (sometimes because I've accidentally overwritten a PF with PDM option 14) work very well.

Also, it's less about the tape but the drive wear.

If the DR plans for multiple restore operations that's fine, but that elongates the recovery time objective, and most customers would rather trade an extra couple inches of tape for the time to get the system back.

Will experiment with CHGPERIOD(*LASTSAVE), and UPDHST for a bit. Maybe I'm just doing something wrong and the documentation is somewhat ambiguous.
