We recently set up and are using a Linux partition hosted by our IBM i. I'm wondering if there's anything we should do to gracefully bring down the Linux box other than VRYCFG CFGOBJ({nwsd-name}) CFGTYPE(*NWS) STATUS(*OFF). This seems to work, but I'm wondering if there's something else or better I should be doing.

VRYCFG should be OK, as a regular shutdown command is initiated on a Linux LPAR hosted by IBM i. I am not sure if power control must be set for that to occur, but I believe it is if you are using VRYCFG and see the Linux LPAR shutting down.

If you start a console session against the Linux LPAR (either from the HMC GUI, or from the HMC vtmenu CLI command), you can see the shutdown steps message. No need to login.
