On the QSYS side, I'm not sure you would need the SQL/CLI interface, but
this looks to be an excellent architecture.
How in your example does the open source side (specifically python in this
case) utilize these objects?

I wrote an RPG service program that simplifies the SQL CLI interface. We
use these "cursor" procedures in nearly every inquiry / maintenance
application we write. I much prefer that over embedding SQL in RPG code.

One could use CL CALLPRC to access SQL CLI procedures. For example:

CALLPRC PRC(CSRNEW) PARM((&VIEWNAME)) RTNVAL(&VIEWREF)

But rather than using CALLPRC, my inclination would be to write CL commands
that essentially mirror the SQL CLI procedures. For example:

CSRNEW NAME(&VIEWNAME) VIEWREF(&VIEWREF)
