Hello Brad,
The command parameters' default values are stored in the command object. The Retrieve Command Definition (QCDRCMDD) API returns information about the command object, including the current parameter default values - and the associated help text panel group. The Retrieve Help Text (QUHRHLPT) API returns information about a UIM help text panel group, including the help text specified default value for a command's parameters - which for system commands would be the original default value. You could use the two API's to provide information about current and original command default values, respectively.
I've written a Display Command Default Value (DSPCMDDFT) command using both API's to show the original default value for a command keyword, and a List Command Parameter Information (LSTCMDPRMI) command that will generate a list like the one below:

Let me know if you want a copy of one or both of the command sources, in case you want to play with the APIs for whatever purpose you had in mind.
Cheers,
Carsten

Subject: Command Defaults... Are they stored anywhere?
Something I've been wondering for a long time.. are command defaults stored anywhere in a table... or are they actually part of the command itself?
Even if it's just if a user uses CHGCMDDFT to change it and it's only stored then, that may be useful.
If they are stored in the command object.. I suppose there's no way to get the defaults without processing the command with a CL... maybe dumping the object? Man, I haven't done that forever. :)
