I asked Jesse Gorzinski and he says:

- JV1 Java 11 is Java Semeru Certified Edition
- RPM Java 11 is Java Semeru Open Edition
- We didn't cement the naming as such to avoid confusion.
- Semeru name really was unfortunate because it killed 57 people
erupting in 2021.

Semeru is the unfortunate name they chose to have a "named" build of the
Java JRE/JDK. In the past you might recall we could download IBM built
JRE's to use with ACS or the like, but they were kinda hidden in developer
sites. Semeru is the official way to obtain a Java runtime not constrained
by Oracle. I use them with ACS and other Java dependent programs.
It makes no sense for Semeru binaries to be available for IBM i, since IBM
i gets them as LICPGMs.
