I have a single VTL connected to a Power 8 and a Power 9 in one location. Each Power system has at least 5 lpars of IBM i. They are connected with fiber channel through a switch. I can run multiple backups at the same time and often do.

I haven't had a physical tape drive since LTO4 so I can't speak as to your LTO7 performance.

BRMS supports this fine. If you're going to do this and you're running BRMS look at DUPMEDBRM instead of just DUPMED.
