From the article...
For $50 per user per month, IBM will place a quad-core POWER
S1014-based System i server on-premises. Extra licenses can be acquired in
lots of five.

It doesn't say what the minimum number of licenses is. I was thinking that
it could be 1 license because I thought that was how my machine was
licensed. However, after more thought, I think I am licensed for 5, not 1.

However, since the hardware/software maintenance on my machine is over 2K
per year, even at the $3K, I would still only be spending $1K per year to
get a new machine. Of course my luck would be that they discontinue the
program and I would have no machine at the end of my lease. :(

Minimum of 5 users @ $50/mth = $250/mth = $3000/Year I think it says ?

Cheers

About 6 years ago I had an opportunity to write and sell a menu system along
with several other "consulting projects" that required me to have my own
machine. After a lot of debating, I broke down and spent $20K+ for a new
Power 720 Express so I would have a number of years of OS upgradability.

Assuming this line in the article is correct "The subscription bundle
includes all hardware, software and services...", I would have gladly jumped
at this option for $600 a year. Instead, I paid the equivalent of a 40+
year lease for a machine that is maxed out at V7.3. :(

I might just have to look into what this lease really includes and maybe
sell my machine while it still has some value.

For small or large shops with a small number of users of IBMi, this
could be a good option to purchase compute capability and also IBM
support.

It certainly created some interest in my current work environment.
