When we first started out with VTL we had one on site which got replicated to a site at a co-location facility. Kind of forerunner to the cloud you might say. This worked ok until we got our own VTL at that co-lo and moved one of our Power systems there too.
Keep in mind that "save while active" is a sick pathetic joke when it comes to the IFS. You're not going to find anything easy to help you with that. Solutions include:
- Software replication systems like Mimix and others.
- Storing your data on SAN and using snapshots during the day until you can do an offline save.
