I'm wondering about the "X" keyboard shift: it's supposed to accept uppercase letters, commas, periods, hyphens, and spaces, but nothing else.

Does that have any practical use? Does it ever actually get used in real life? Or was it just something that somebody at IBM implemented because "it seemed like a good idea at the time"?
