Git is the most widely used revision control today.
It deals with any kind of files.
It is peer-based ... the full repo clones to your target destination ...
changes can be pushed upstream to a main repo that is only main because all
the peers agree it is main and pull from there to get updates and new
branches.
It works it works it works, and is supported in editors such as VSCode
